Halloween comes to the Pendleton house...

I love the holidays! I love Halloween! I put up some of my decorations the other day. I have four big boxes of Halloween decorations. When I say Halloween that includes: fall, autumn, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. I try to add a few new decorations each year. I lost count of my Christmas decoration boxes at twelve not including the tree. I still haven't found my big fall wreath for my front door. However, here is some of the decorations I have around my house. Ethan loves it! He is so excited. This year I think he is finally into the Halloween spirit. Every year past he didn't want to put on his costume or say "Trick or Treat". This year I think he understands a little more. He is getting excited. He is going to be a Meerkat! The costume is great! Ethan must have at least
5 different Halloween shirts that he wears from October 1 -31st. I have one shirt and two bows then just orange and black clothes.

Ethan made two ghosts and two pumpkins last year. The other set is hanging on the fan in the family room. This is above our kitchen table.

Must have staple during the holidays!

My fav.... the Thanksgiving people from Publix! Incredibly my don't come to life.... not fair!

Mom and I made a pumpkin patch of pumpkins about 2-3 years ago.

My mom's ceramic pumpkin that she put out every year since as long as I can remember in my childhood. She gave it to me about 8 years ago.

Made the Happy Halloween sign this year. It is hung by polka dot ribbon that you cant see in this picture.

Paper chains I made this year. Have since hung some in two other doorways.

Ethan made the two pumpkins in the middle last year. He is scared to death of the dancing chicken on the right!

Back slider doors with decals.

Mcnugget Halloween characters... who knows how long I have had these!

Debbie, my sister in law, gave me this great scarecrow!

Ethan made these last year

Our pilgrim ducks! They are located by my front door. Ethan goes running by them and says, "you stay right here. I will be right back."

Rachel made this for Ethan!

A friend of mine has the most beautiful little girl from China. Her name is Lilly. Lilly's mom is Becky. Becky makes the most adorable little girl's clothes in the world! Now Becky is selling her creations online. Check out her website and clothing. If I had a little girl I'd buy a dress in every design. I wish I was 1/10th as talented as Becky!

Cake class week two...

October 13, 2008
(pictures taken 10-13-08)

As I mentioned before, Matt gave me the bestest birthday present ever! I've always wanted to take a Wilton cake decorating class. However, working for Verizon I couldn't get home in time to take the class. Fast forward twelve years... no more working for Verizon... and the best birthday present ever! I am taking the class with my sweet sister in law Stacy (see previous post of ultrasound of baby bean) and my dear friend Rachel (see tons of previous pictures of Rachel, Riley, and Bill). Week one was spent learning how to make the butter cream icing and the instructor iced a cake. She then showed us how to smooth the cake. We learned about the different consistency of icing and when to use what type for which application. We learned about the different types of bags to use and how to fold the parchment bags. She took us down the cake aisle and showed us all our many options for purchase.... and there were tons! Somewhat overwhelming. Buy this kit and get this. Buy this kit and get this and this. Buy separately and it costs this. All of us bought a few items which generated a 50% off coupon and we went back the following Sunday to buy the kit using the coupon.

Week two class we learned how to make the beginning of the Wilton Rose that has a gabillion steps to it. We learn the first step! Now we have to practice that step over and over. We learned how to use the star tip and how to write on icing. Then we decorated our cakes! These are the end results from week two.

Stacy and baby bean.... practicing icing techniques on practice boards. practice

Stacy's beautiful cake

adding 2008 on it! Turned out beautiful!

Rachel's beautiful cake! Riley's favorite colors are red and blue. Rachel made a cake to make Riley happy. Turned out awesome!

My candy corn cake! I love candy corn! Turned out pretty cool I think.

Side view.... obviously I still need practice. My cake is slanting. I make lemon cake with lemon pie filling. I did everything correctly....damming cake and all... but I added too much filling in between the layers. Thus during car ride the cake settled and is slanted. Oh well... looks beautiful and tastes great! Matt wanted a lemon cake! Ethan said, "wow! Pretty mommy!" Praise enough for me!
